Nico Rosberg reckons improving Formula 1's environmental reputation should be one of the priorities for new FIA president Jean Todt.
The German thinks the public perception of the sport's environmental impact is incorrect, and that this needs to be addressed.
"I guess I would like to see him change the image of F1 a little bit, to be more eco-friendly," said Rosberg when asked of his hopes for Todt's regime.
"It's debatable whether it really is so bad for the environment or not, but that's the image that we've got.
"So it's important to do some things against that, as has been done with KERS, but to push it even further."
Rosberg believes the green question is one of the biggest threats to F1's future prospects.
"That's going to be something that could really reduce the interest in the sport in the future, with people looking much more towards the environment, so it's one area where it's going to be important to make some progress and some big steps," he said.
He welcomed Todt's election success, and thinks the former Ferrari chief will be good for F1 and the FIA.
"I think it's very good that there's a change - it's fresh air and Mr Todt is going to have a good look at all the things that have been going right and wrong, and make some changes," Rosberg said.
"He's very competent, so I'm very confident that he's going to do a good job and be very good for the sport as well as everything else that the FIA looks after.
"It will be interesting to see what he comes up with."
