Di Resta pledges to wow Force India

Scottish ace Paul di Resta says he is determined to secure a Force India reserve role when he tests for the squad at Jerez next week.

Di Resta will go head to head with American Indy Lights champion JR Hildebrand at the test, after which Force India is expected to pick its third driver for 2010 - with a view to promoting whoever emerges on top to a race seat in 2011 if they continue to impress.

Having tested for McLaren last winter before spending this season back in touring cars in Germany, di Resta wants to make sure this opportunity translates into a Formula 1 shot.

"I've been waiting on this moment for a long time," the 23-year-old told Autosport magazine.

"When we initially spoke it was a big relief.

"Force India seems serious about this opportunity, so it's a chance for me to show what I can do.

"Third driver is a position I want.

"If, at the end of it, I have produced, there's an opportunity for a position in the team which will alow me to further my career with Force India.

"This is a chance that nobody else has given me as of yet.

"I want to grab it with both hands and not let go."

Di Resta is a former winner of the prestigious BRDC McLaren Autosport Award for young British drivers, and famously beat Sebastian Vettel to the title when they were team-mates in the Formula 3 Euro Series in 2006.

The Scot was then picked up as a Mercedes protege, and was placed in the German based DTM saloon series, where he impressed by taking fifth in the championship in a year-old car in his debut season.

Promoted to Mercedes' front-line AMG squad after that, di Resta narrowly missed out on the 2008 title and finished third in the standings this year.
